Manuel Sanchis Guarner (València, 1911-1981). Philologist and Historian, he is considered the precursor of modern philology in València.
He is the author of a vast body of work that covers essays on linguistics, literature, history, ethnography and folklore. His studies are mainly focused in the Valencian region, but also in the rest of the Catalan speaking territories and Spain. He published essential works for Catalan philology and literature and also for the build of Valencian identity, such as La llengua dels valencians (1933), Gramàtica valenciana (1950), Els pobles valencians parlen els uns dels altres (1963-1983), La ciutat de València (1972), and Aproximació a la història de la llengua catalana (1980), amongst many others. He also collaborated in the Diccionari català-valencià-balear and in the Història del País Valencià. In 1974 he was honored with the "Premi d'Honor de les Lletres Catalanes".
He was a member of Associació d'Escriptors en Llengua Catalana.
