Emma Segura

English

Emma Segura (l'Hospitalet de Llobregat, 1974) has always loved literature. She was captivated by the books in a small library that welcomed children at the entrance of the Marquesa Park (in l'Hospitalet's Collblanc neighbourhood). As a child, she loved exchanging letters with friends and her grandmother in Linyola, or writing to her older brothers who were doing military service. Even before she had reached an age of double figures she loved listening to the stories her aunts, grandmothers and other adult relatives told every day, and she also invented her own. While still young she practised the art of frequenting bookshops and libraries in different parts of Barcelona. At the age of fifteen, she and her friends made a musical film in Super 8, a heady challenge they met with an almost non-existent budget. In 1996, at the age of 21, she and three other young people began to publish a fanzine called Plomes Novelles.

She has never stopped writing and making notes for her eyes alone, except for the odd letter to a newspaper editor.

In 2006, she presented for a literary competition for the first time: the Joan Castelló Prize for the Short Story in which she was an ex aequo winner. This led to the first publication of her work and was an incentive for her to continue making her writing known. Not long afterwards, she started writing opinion pieces for the press. In 2007 she won the City of Eivissa Prize for Children's Literature, which paved the way for the publication of her second book. She has since published two more commissioned books and has written articles for a number of Eivissa-based publications. Some poems from her small collection have also made their debut in society.

She loves walking around and taking photos. She also enjoys mathematics and conversations.

She is a member of the Associació d'Escriptors en Llengua Catalana (AELC – Association of Catalan Language Writers).
