Magí Sunyer (Reus, 1958) has a doctorate in Catalan Philology from the University of Barcelona and is a lecturer in Catalan Literature at the Rovira i Virgili University of Tarragona. A multidisciplinary writer, she has worked in almost all genres – poetry, fiction, literary criticism, essay and theatre.
In 1978 she published her first collection of poems, Càntir de llum i de febre (Pitcher of Light and Fever), which was followed by other works including Ginette (1982), L'error bellíssim (The Most Beautiful Error, 1993), I després, el silenci (And Then, Silence, 2000), and Conté un secret (It Contains a Secret, 2003). Notable among her titles in fiction are La serp (The Snake, 1990), which was awarded the 1989 Víctor Català Prize, and Jim (2010), awarded the Roc Boronat prize. In 2014 he was awarded the Crítica Serra d'Or theatre prize for his play Safira.
Among her writings and books in the scientific domain are Els marginats socials en la literatura del Grup Modernista de Reus (Social Outsiders in the Literature of the Modernist Group of Reus, 1984), Modernistes i contemporanis (Modernist and Contemporary, 2004), and Els mites nacionals catalans (Catalan National Myths, 2006).
She regularly works with the written press and has directed literary collections that recover out-of-print works. She is a member of the scientific associations the Societat Verdaguer and the Societat Narcís Oller, and the group Escriptors del Camp de Tarragona. From 2007 to 2015 he has been member of the board of Associació d'Escriptors en Llengua Catalana (AELC – Association of Catalan Language Writers).
