Manel Hurtado Juan (Bonrepòs i Mirambell, 1971) wrote, as his first work, a collection of short stories which, although it was awarded a prize in a local competition, remains unpublished. He also wrote the lyrics of several songs. He then started writing more seriously with the novel Una vida llogada (Editorial Sunya, 2012), which was followed by Elegia vora mar (Quorum Llibres, 2018), and Clepsidra (Neopàtria, 2021). His Relats des del jardí (Ajuntament de Canals, 2022) was awarded the Francesc Bru Vila de Canals Fiction Prize and, in 2022 he received the Ciutat de València Isabel de Villena Prize for the Novel with Les puces (Bromera, 2023).
Moreover, every three months he writes for the “Vocabulari de guillats” series of micro-stories that are published in the Plaerdemavida magazine of the Macarella Cultural Association. He has also published in the Caràcters magazine of the University of Valencia.
In addition to fiction, he has published the poetry collection Conjectures, consideracions i altres reguinys (Ediciones Oblicuas, 2019).
Hurtado is working on several projects that aim to encourage reading and writing of both stories (“De la mà d’un escriptor”) and poetry (“Escola i Poesia”).
He is a member of the Associació d’Escriptors en Llengua Catalana (Association of Catalan Language Writers – AELC).
