Enric Valor (Castalla, l'Alcoià, 1911 - València, 2000). Grammarian, lexicologist, short-story writer and novelist.
He compiled thirty-six short-stories from the Valencian oral tradition and transformed them into written literature, in a fine balance between the norm and the dialectal research, fixing expressions. As a lexicologist he made his place amongst the most respected Fabra's followers, and he had an important role in the spreading of the Catalan grammar in the Valencian Community, with books such as Millorem el llenguatge (1971), Curs mitjà de gramàtica catalana referida especialment al País Valencià (1973), La flexió verbal (1983), and others. From his narrative work, one could emphasize the "Cicle de Cassana", integrated by the trilogy Sense la terra promesa (1980), Temps de batuda (1983), and Enllà de l'horitzó (1991).
He received the Premi de les Lletres Valencianes (1985), the Premi d'Honor de les Lletres Catalanes (1987) and the Creu de Sant Jordi de la Generalitat de Catalunya (1993) amongst others, and he was awarded the title Doctor Honoris Causa by the universities of València, Illes Balears, Politècnica de València, Jaume I from Castelló and Alacant.
Valor was an honorary member and vice-precident for the Valencian region of Associació d'Escriptors en Llengua Catalana (AELC, Association of Catalan Language Writers).
