Marià Villangómez (Ciutat d'Eivissa, 1913-2002) was a poet and translator. His poetry is permeated with the landscape and people of Eivissa (Ibiza), moving beyond any mimicry of tradition to seek pure poetry within much broader parameters. Besides being influenced by Noucentism, he was also a great admirer of the famous "Generation of ’27" poets and the European symbolist tradition. The year 1963 saw the end of his dense and coherent poetic production (collected in three volumes in 1986) when he began to focus on essay-writing, theatre, journalistic articles and, in particular, poetry translation, including Shakespeare's sonnets and poems by Keats, Baudelaire, Yeats and Dylan Thomas. In 1989 he was awarded the Prize of Honour in Catalan Letters. He was also an honorary member of the Associació d'Escriptors en Llengua Catalana (Association of Catalan Language Writers)
