Jaume Pérez Montaner (L'Alfàs del Pi, 1938) is a poet and essayist.
He graduated with a degree in Philosophy and Letters from the University of Valencia and has been a professor at various universities in the United States. Outstanding among his books of poetry are the collections Màscares (Masks – 1992), Fronteres (Frontiers – 1994), L'oblit (Oblivion – 1996), Solatge (2009), the revised anthology Geografies de l'oblit (2013) and La casa buida (2014). As an essayist, he is one of the leading experts on Vicent Andrés Estellés’ work, of which Pérez Montaner has published anthologies, studies and critical editions. He has also made studies of Ausiàs March, Joan Brossa and Joan Fuster. He has translated such authors as Wallace Stevens, Anne Sexton, William Stafford, Barbara Kingsolver, E.E. Cummings, Edgar Allan Poe and Edoardo Sanguinetti. Beyond this, he has contributed articles and scholarly studies to publications as often foreign as Catalan: Lletres de canvi, Cairell, Daina (which he edited, along with the journals Occitan/Catalan Studies and Encontres), El Temps, Catalan Review, Revista de Occidente, Cuadernos Americanos and The Paris Review, among many others.
From 1999 to 2007 he was President of the Associació d'Escriptors en Llengua Catalana (Association of Catalan Language Writers), and in 2013 he became a member of honor. In 2014 he was honored the Jaume Fuster Prize of the Catalan language writers.
