Guillem Frontera (Ariany, 1945) is a fiction writer, columnist, and essay writer on art. A member of the 1970s Generation of Catalan writers, and writing as a social realist, he made his debut as a poet. However, he soon began publishing fiction and stood out as a critical novelist with books like Els carnissers (1968), Tyrannosaurus (1977), La ruta dels cangurs (1979), and Sicília sense morts (2015). His best-known collection of short stories, titled La mort i la pluja, was awarded the 2007 Mercè Rodoreda Prize and the 2009 Serra d’Or Critics’ Prize).
Frontera is also closely connected with the world of art. He was director of the Gran enciclopèdia de la pintura i l'escultura a les Balears, is an exhibition curator, writes catalogues, and is a frequent contributor in the written press. Some of his articles, capturing the writer’s view, have been collected and published in L’art i la vasa (2009). Moreover, the novel L’adéu al Mestre (2013) offers, in the form of fiction, a critique of speculation in the realm of art and a reflection of the upheaval caused by the Miquel Barceló phenomenon.
