Pau Faner (Ciutadella, Menorca, 1949) is a novelist, painter and secondary school teacher. As a narrator he has introduced magic realism into his works, which have frequently been written from mythical or fantastic perspectives. Notable among his novels and short story collections are L’arcàngel (The Archangel – 1984), which was awarded the City of Mallorca Prize, Un regne per a mi (A Kingdom for Me – 1976), a Sant Jordi Prize winner, and Fins al cel (Up to the Sky – 1984), winner of the Josep Pla Prize. With Moro de rei (The King’s Moor – 1988), he received the Ramon Llull Prize, while his Mal camí i bon senyor (Bad Track and Good Man – 1992), was awarded the Sant Joan Prize. In 1999, the publisher Edicions de la Magrana reissued his main works in a collection devoted to this author.

His most recent work is Aetara, published by Euxina. This is an adventure novel with a mythical background, a common theme in Pau Farner’s work. He has also written children’s and young people’s books, for example Les noces del cel i de la terra (The Marriage of Heaven and Earth – 1997), and theatre, including an adaptation of his novel Fins al cel (1984). As a painter, he has had exhibitions in the cities of Barcelona, Madrid and New York. He writes for the newspapers and has been awarded major critics’ prizes for his work, for example the Crexells prize and the Catalan Critics' Prize.

He is an honorary member of the Associació d’Escriptors en Llengua Catalana (AELC – Association of Catalan Language Writers).
