Miquel Rayó

English

Miquel Rayó i Ferrer was born in Palma (Mallorca), where he still lives, on 21 September 1952. He is an educationalist and writes for children and adolescents in particular. His literary themes are adventure stories and nature, human feelings and values, besides marvellous traditional stories and journeys through unknown lands. His style is poetic, his vocabulary rich and almost always scattered with elements of good humour while not fleeing adequate expression of intensely difficult situations. His works have had both public and critical recognition, and some have been awarded major prizes (Guillem Cifre de Colonya, Josep Maria Folch i Torres, Generalitat de Catalunya, Joaquim Ruyra, and Edebé prizes). In the Balearic Islands, he has worked tirelessly in creating and developing the ecology movement and in environmental education and information. He has also written novels for adults, some brief essays on birds and on popular culture, tourist guides for the Balearic Islands and didactic texts for environmental education and popularising conservationist initiatives.

He is a member of AELC (Association of Catalan Language Writers).
