Núria Perpinyà (Lleida, 1961), with a degree and doctorate in Catalan Philology from the University of Lleida, is a university lecturer and writer who works in the genres of the novel and essay.
At a very early age she became interested in the work of Gabriel Ferrater and, with Xavier Macià as co-author, she published her first essay on the poet, La poesia de Gabriel Ferrater (The Poetry of Gabriel Ferrater), at the age of twenty-five. Her work as a researcher and university teaching activities has born fruit in the form of three more books of literary criticism.
In 1998 she published her first novel, Un bon error (A Good Error), in which she already displayed the complexity and careful elaboration that would characterise her subsequent novels. Una casa per compondre (A House to be Composed, 2001) confirms her risky and ambitious wager in working towards a renovation of the genre within the general panorama of contemporary Catalan literature. Mistana (2005) was awarded the Critics' Prize in 2006 and Els privilegiats (The Privileged, 2007) complete the body of the author's fictional work for the time being. Besides her work as a novelist, Núria Perpinyà continues to write essays and to teach in the university.
She is a member of the Associació d'Escriptors en Llengua Catalana (AELC – Association of Catalan Language Writers).
