Arian Botey i Prat (Granollers, 1943) is an industrial engineer and writer.
A film and theatre enthusiast since childhood, he took part in making the first 8mm films of the early Ràdio Granollers broadcasts in which he has taken part in more than a hundred children’s programmes (“L’ocell de paper”) and others about poetry and music. He also participated in the first local Granollers TV programmes broadcast in in 1987, as well as those of Sant Celoni, Igualada, and Vilanova del Camí.
He has written the feature film scripts “El pecat de Belle”, “Estiu amb Nit”, and “Los hijos de Sikún”, and also several plays, notable amongst which are Res és gris, which was premiered by the company Quatre per Quatre. He has published the novels Montsemar i les estrelles (Granollers, 2002), El pecat de Belle (Granollers, 2004), Mossegades al cor (Alpina, 2016), El factor sàndric (Alpina, 2019), and Àngels del quitrà (Foment, 2021). Moreover, he has contributed humorous and erotic texts in two books by the Montseny Writers Group, Montseny eròtic and Montseny amb un somriure.
In the professional domain, he has worked in the fields of video, television, and cinema since 1983. He has made many video works, notably including “Fauna Secreta”, with Joan Fontcuberta, which is in the MOMA, New York, and has been included in the MACBA art collection; and “Fricciones”, “Regular” and “Anel” on work by the Galician artist Xoan Anleo, which have been exhibited in CEGAC, Santiago de Compostela. He has also made videos for CaixaForum, the MNAC, and other venues.
He has published articles in local and regional publications, including Plaça Gran, El Pou Calent, La Pipa, Nació Granollers and is presently writing for El 9 Nou.
He is married with two children, five granddaughters, and a great-grandchild on the way.
He is a member of the Associació d’Escriptors en Llengua Catalana (AELC – Association of Catalan Language Writers).
