Miquel Bezares (Llucmajor, 1968) is a poet, fiction writer and teacher. With a degree in Catalan Philology, he teaches in a secondary school besides giving some courses for adults. In the final years of the 1980s and early 1990s, he was co-director, along with Biel Thomàs, of Edicions Atàviques, an interesting publishing venture combining the plastic arts and poetry.

He made his debut as a poet in 1987 with the work Cos de calitja (Sea Haze Body). This was followed by several other publications, some of which have been awarded prizes: Carnaval (Carnival, 1989), winner of the "Ciutat de Palma" Prize for Poetry; Crònica del desfici (Chronicle of Disquiet, 1992), winner of the Josep Munteis Poetry Prize, in the "Ciutat d'Olot" Prizes 1991; El convers (The Convert, 2004), winner of the Miquel de Palol Prize for Poetry, 2003. With L'espiga del buit (2010) he was awarded the Maria Mercè Marçal and the Crítica Serra d'Or poetry prizes, and with Origen (2014), he received the Octubre-Vicent Andrés Estellés poetry prize.

He has also received a number of prizes for his fictional works, for example the Bearn Prize for Susannes (1998), and the Marià Vayreda Prize, in the "Ciutat d'Olot" Prizes, for Quan els avions cauen (When the Planes Fall, 2001). He works, inter alia, with the photographer Toni Catany, and wrote the texts for the catalogue of the Catany's exhibition Dels qui escriuen (On Those Who Write, 2002).

He is a member of the Associació d’Escriptors en Llengua Catalana (AELC – Association of Catalan Language Writers) and has been vice-president of the Balearic Islands branch (2007-2016).
